NVHF announces upcoming leadership transition
By: Judy Feder, Chair of the Board of DirectorsIn August 2023, the Foundation’s Board of Directors announced that Patricia N. Mathews, President & CEO, will retire from her role this winter. As the Foundation’s first employee, Pat has overseen an ambitious grantmaking strategy that has strengthened Northern Virginia’s health care safety net, has brokered long-lasting relationships among community stakeholders and local officials, and has invested in research that stimulated local governments and nonprofits to redirect resources to redress the region’s substantial health and racial disparities. Her leadership in Northern Virginia, and the broader philanthropic community, has led to significant advancements in our region.
The Board is conducting a national search for the Foundation’s next President & CEO. The Board has retained Carlyn Madden of Good Insight, a Washington, DC-based executive search firm with an exclusive focus on mission-driven organizations. The search launches in late September 2023, with the intent to name a new leader by the end of the year.
The Board seeks a visionary and skilled senior executive to carry its work forward. The President & CEO serves as the Foundation’s chief strategist and spokesperson. They will be responsible for setting a framework for achieving better health outcomes through grantmaking, directed research, and participation in key partnerships, committees, and boards that advance the overall health of Northern Virginia residents.
Candidate referrals, questions, or personal interest may be sent to Carlyn Madden at Good Insight at NVHF@good-insight.org. All inquiries will be held in strict confidence.
